Position Description
- $4,000 sign-on bonus for applicants who have zero seniority at CMH and who meet all other conditions for payment**
- To receive sign-on bonus, applicant must sign an offer letter by December 31, 2025, and begin working within three weeks of that acceptance. Full details of payment conditions can be obtained from Human Resources.
The Same Day Services Staff Nurse is a team player and directs the admission and discharge process of Same Day Services patients. Assesses, plans, directs, evaluates, and performs care. Possesses the skills and judgment to act quickly, knowledgeably, and appropriately in any situation that may occur. Coordinates all services necessary for the care of assigned patients. Must possess skills and perform duties of a PreAdmission Testing Nurse (PAT) such as directs the pre-admission process of patients being admitted through SDS. Assesses, plans, evaluates, performs care and assembles all preoperative orders and processes them. Coordinates all services necessary for the care of preadmission patients including calling the surgeon, consulting physician, or anesthesia when appropriate. Maintains certifications and skills necessary to perform duties connected with patient care, and provides for a smooth transition between services. Completes pre and post-operative teaching, both with patient and family, arranges for telephone or personal interview chart review with Anesthesia, as necessary. Assures required documentation is both complete and adequate including a History and Physical, consent, orders, and testing results. Maintains cleanliness and orderliness of department as needed.
Job Requirements
Nursing principles and procedures particularly as they relate to surgical patients. Techniques of good patient care, whether medical or surgical. Must be willing to learn computer technology. Must be flexible as needs arise and possess willingness to acquire new skills and adapt to a changing environment. Must possess assessment skills for all age groups. Must read, write and speak English.
Knowledge of /Skill/Ability to: Possess the skills and judgment to knowledgeably and appropriately act in situations that may occur. Ability to handle multiple tasks and duties simultaneously. Ability to mentally prioritize. Ability to maintain a professional, low-key, pleasant and tactful affect during patient care to all those encountered.
License/Certification: Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse with the Oregon State Board of Nursing; BLS required upon hire through the American Heart Association, ACLS certification required within six months of hire.
Education and/or Experience: Two years of acute care environment preferred. Demonstrated ability to work independently and with a high level of critical thinking skills to problem solve. For RNs graduating within the last 12 months, or RNs that have not practiced in an acute care facility within the last 24 months and have not previously completed a residency program will be required to complete the CMH-provided Nurse Residency program.
Physical Demands and Work Environment Conditions / ADA Compliance
Works inside. Walking and standing much of the time while on duty. Subject to occasional physical and emotional stress within a fast-paced environment. Occasionally will work extended hours or variation of usual shift and will be dependent on patient requirements. Ability to lift and transfer patients is required, usually with the assistance of co-workers, but some occasional lifting without assistance. Normal to corrected vision is required. Normal or corrected hearing is necessary to distinguish differences in monitor alarms, heartbeats, and breathing. Manual dexterity is required to operate equipment. Must be willing and committed to safe management of potentially infectious diseases and the handling of toxic drug therapies. Required to use personal protective apparel. Pushes/pulls loaded adult stretchers, beds, wheelchairs, crash carts and equipment carts. Transfers patients to/from cars, stretchers, beds, chairs and ambulates as necessary. Tolerates bending, sitting, standing, walking, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling for 8 – 12 hours (shift dependent). Lifts or carries up to 50 lbs.
